COVID-19 cases in South Dakota increased by more than 1,000 for the second time in three days, state health officials reported Sunday.

The state Department of Health reported 1,063 new cases in the last day, two days after the state recorded a daily high of 1,185 cases. A total of 3,187 positive tests were confirmed in the last three days and 37,979 cumulative infections have been diagnosed since the pandemic began.

There have been 10,411 positive tests in Minnehaha County, which includes Sioux Falls.

Figures compiled Saturday by Johns Hopkins University researchers shows there were more than 1,155 new cases per 100,000 people in South Dakota over the past two weeks. That ranks second in the country behind North Dakota for new cases per capita.

There are 366 patients being treated in medical facilities across the state for complications due to COVID-19, state data shows.

South Dakota health officials reported 538 cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the state's total to 39,741.

According to the state's health department, 525 of these new cases are confirmed and 13 are probable.

State health officials say South Dakota has 11,061 active cases in the state. That's an increase of 316 in the last 24 hours.

Currently, 377 South Dakotans are hospitalized due to the virus, the highest amount seen so far since the pandemic began.

Nine additional virus-related deaths have been reported. To date, South Dakota has had 375 virus-related deaths.

South Dakota set new highs in the daily number of people infected with COVID-19 on Wednesday, as well as reported new infections.

The South Dakota Department of Health reported 1,270 new infections, as well as 412 hospitalizations, an increase of 17 in the previous 24 hours. Nine additional people died, bringing the statewide total to 384.

The number of active infections increased by 754, totaling 11,933.

State epidemiologist Josh Clayton said Wednesday that there are 28 people in South Dakota who have possibly been reinfected with the disease 90 days after their first infection, raising questions about how long antibodies can fight future infections.

South Dakota has the worst rate of positive tests, hospitalizations and cases per 100,000 people in the country, according to data compiled by the New York Times.

The New York Times COVID-19 tracker says the state is reporting an average of 112 cases per 100,000 people the past seven days as of Wednesday. North Dakota, which has been No. 1 for weeks, is at 107.6. South Dakota reported a new high for active cases (12,462), current hospitalizations (413) and daily deaths (19) on Thursday. Based on a population of 884,659, one in 71 people in the state are actively infected with COVID-19.

South Dakota has three counties in the top 10 of rates per 100,000 across the country.

Meanwhile, South Dakota has the worst positive test rate in the country.

The state is reporting 41% of its tests are positive in the past two weeks, above Idaho (34%) and Wyoming (27%).

South Dakota also has the most people hospitalized per 100,000 people, according to the New York Times. The state has 39 people per 100,000 in the hospital, compared to 32 for Montana and North Dakota.

South Dakota reported a record number of daily COVID-19 deaths on Thursday, with 19 people who have died.

The number of hospitalizations also inched up to 413 people, marking the fifth day in a row that it has hit a new high.

There were about 1,336 new cases per 100,000 people. That means that one out of roughly every 75 people in the state has tested positive for the virus in the last two weeks.

The Department of Health reported 1,000 new cases on Thursday, pushing the state past 12,000 active infections.

12 more South Dakotans have died from COVID-19, according to the latest update from the state department of health.

The death toll climbed to 415. The new deaths were four men and eight women. That makes 192 deaths in October, the deadliest month of the pandemic so far.

Active cases are now at 13,520, up from Thursday (12,462) and a new single-day record.

On Friday, 1,559 new coronavirus cases were announced, bringing the state’s total case count to 44,559, up from Thursday (43,000). There were 1,389 new PCR cases and 171 new antigen cases for 1,559 new total cases.

Current hospitalizations for COVID-19 are now at 403, down from Thursday (413). Total hospitalizations, which includes only South Dakota residents, is now at 2,660, up from Thursday (2,602).

Ten new COVID-19 deaths were reported on Saturday as South Dakota surpassed more than 14,000 active COVID-19 cases in the state, according to the South Dakota Department of Health’s update.

The death toll is now at 425.

There has been 202 deaths in October, the deadliest month of the pandemic so far.

On Saturday, 1,434 new coronavirus cases were announced, bringing the state’s total case count to 45,992, up from Friday (44,559).

Active cases are now at 14,373, up from Friday (13,520).

Current hospitalizations for COVID-19 are now at 415, up from Friday (403). Total hospitalizations, which includes only South Dakota residents, is now at 2,683, up from Friday (2,660).

Twelve new COVID-19 deaths were reported on Sunday as active cases of the coronavirus are down in South Dakota, according to the department of health’s update.

The death toll is now at 437.

There has been 214 deaths in October, the deadliest month of the pandemic so far.

On Sunday, 1,332 new coronavirus cases were announced, bringing the state’s total case count to 47,324, up from Saturday (45,992).

Active cases are now at 13,138, down from Saturday (14,373).

Current hospitalizations for COVID-19 are now at 421, up from Saturday (415). Total hospitalizations, which includes only South Dakota residents, is now at 2,721, up from Saturday (2,683).

A single-day record 480 people are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 and eight new deaths were reported by the South Dakota Department of Health on Tuesday.

The death toll is now at 446.

On Tuesday, 1,004 new coronavirus cases were announced, bringing the state’s total case count to more than 48,000 at 48,854, up from Monday (47,850).

Active cases are now at 13,367, up from Monday (13,325).

Current hospitalizations are at 480, up 78 from Monday (402). Total hospitalizations are at 2,824, up from Monday (2,755).

There were 2,073 new persons tested reported on Tuesday. The test-positivity rate for Tuesday is 48 percent.

There were 14 new COVID-19 deaths and current hospitalizations reached another single-day record (483) in the latest update from the South Dakota Department of Health.

The death toll increased by 14 to a total of 460. There have been 237 deaths reported since Oct. 1.

On Wednesday, 937 new coronavirus cases were announced, bringing the state’s total case count to 49,791, up from Tuesday (48,854).

Active cases are at 13,908, up from Tuesday (13,367).

Current hospitalizations are at 483, up from Tuesday (480). Total hospitalizations are at 2,873, up from Tuesday (2,824).

The South Dakota Department of Health reported the highest one-day total of COVID-19 deaths as the state surpassed 50,000 total reported infections.

The number of people who died with COVID-19 rose to 482, which is 22 more than reported Wednesday. New positive infections totaled 1,360, bringing the total number since March to 51,151.

Meanwhile, the number of people hospitalized with coronavirus was 475, eight fewer than the previous 24 hours.

The Rapid City Journal reports that health officials report for the first time showed more than 500 people hospitalized, 15,000 active cases and deaths continued to climb above 500.

Thirteen more deaths were recorded Saturday. There have been 98 deaths in the first week of November after October set a record with 202 deaths in 31 days. There have been 523 deaths since the pandemic began.

There were 1,337 new cases reported Saturday on 2,493 tests for a positivity rate of 53.6%. There have now been 53,976 cases in the state with 15,050 of those still active.

There are 515 people being treated in hospitals across South Dakota - an increase of 22 since Friday. There are 101 people in intensive care units and 65 people on ventilators.

South Dakota reported 1,426 new COVID-19 cases and 13 more deaths on Sunday.

Active cases increased by 700 to 15,750, the highest number recorded since the pandemic started. The South Dakota Department of Health says 715 people recovered from COVID-19.

South Dakota surpassed 1,000 daily cases for the fourth straight day, and hospitalizations increased by 31 to 546.

On Monday, South Dakota reported 907 new total cases of the coronavirus, bringing the state’s total case count to 56,311, up from Sunday (55,404).

Active cases are now at 16,266, up from Sunday (15,750) and a new single-day record.

Current persons hospitalized for COVID-19 is at 566, up 20 from Sunday (546) and another single-day record. Total hospitalizations are now at 3,227, up from Sunday (3,184).

Department of Health reported that the state piled up another 1,611 infections.

The new positives brought the statewide total to 62,327.

One additional death was associated with the disease, bringing the state total to 568.

An additional 85 people sought hospital care over the past 24 hours, and the number of patients in the hospital with COVID-19 was 556.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 in South Dakota increased by 22 over the previous 24 hours, the Department of Health reported Tuesday, while total positive infections increased by 1,006.

The 22 additional beds occupied by patients with the disease put the total to 582, below the record of 607. The new positive infections pushed the total to 67,284 South Dakotans who have tested positive for coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, a number that is likely low.

South Dakota announced 36 COVID-19 related deaths on Saturday as the Department of Health reported 1,144 new cases

There are now 16,867 active coronavirus cases in South Dakota

The state reported 36 more deaths, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 777.

The state reported that the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 increased by six in the last day. Saturday, 580 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. Thirty-two percent of hospital beds are available in the state. Of all ICU beds only 29.6% of beds are still available in the state. There are only 15.7% of adult ICU beds available in the state.

The death toll is now at 819. There have been 404 deaths reported since Nov. 1.

On Sunday, 851 new total coronavirus cases were announced bringing the state’s total case count to 73,065, up from Saturday (72,214). Total recovered cases are now at 55,349, up 779 from Saturday (54,570).

Active cases are now at 16,897, up from Saturday (16,867).

Current hospitalizations are at 577, down from Saturday (580). Total hospitalizations are now at 4,094, up from Saturday (4,052).

Fifty-four new COVID-19 deaths were reported, bringing the total to 942. There have been 527 deaths reported since Nov. 1.

On Saturday, 819 new total coronavirus cases were reported bringing the state’s total case count to 79,099, up from Friday (78,280). Total recovered cases are now at 61,051, up from Friday (61,010).

Active cases increased to 17,106 from Friday (16,382).

Current hospitalizations are at 539, down from Friday (569). Total hospitalized are now at 4,400, up from Friday (4,353).
