Another TRUMP administration failure in preventing loss of life

Some top administration officials even hoped to tap the mail service’s vast network — and its unrivaled ability to reach every U.S. Zip code — to help Americans obtain personal protective equipment. The idea originated out of the Department of Health and Human Services, which suggested a pack of five reusable masks be sent to every residential address in the country, with the first shipments going to the hardest-hit areas.

Before the news release was sent, however, the White House nixed the plan, according to senior administration officials

There was concern from some in the White House Domestic Policy Council and the office of the vice president that households receiving masks might create concern or panic,” one administration official said in response to the scrapped mask plan.

Covid-19 infections are spreading across the United States at the fastest rate since the start of the pandemic, the latest NBC News figures showed Tuesday.

The 71,000 new cases per day that the U.S. averaged over the past week was the most in any seven-day stretch since the crisis started and stood in stark contrast to President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that “we are rounding the turn” on the pandemic.

Wyoming, which had relatively few cases until recently, reported a 475 percent spike in Covid-19 deaths in the last 14 days, the numbers showed.

Dr. J.J. Bleicher, the interim head of the Wyoming Medical Center, told The Casper Star-Tribune that they were bracing for an “exponential” growth in the number of critically ill Covid-19 patients

the U.S. led the world in the number of Covid-19 cases with 8.8 million and nearly 227,000 deaths from the virus, according to the Johns Hopkins University Covid-19 dashboard.

Wisconsin, another key state that Trump needs to win, also set a new daily record for both infections (5,262) and deaths (64), state health officials reported. And it reported a 25.7 percent Covid-19 testing positivity rate, one of the highest in the country.

States like Texas (18,081 deaths) and Florida (16,652 deaths) recorded the bulk of their Covid-19 deaths after they started lifting their lockdowns in May, at the urging of Trump and to the dismay of public health experts, NBC News statistics have shown.

Fauci and other infectious disease experts have been pleading with Americans to keep wearing masks and to social distance as much as possible.

Jorge Ortiz has been forced to put an overflow of bodies into a chapel at one of his six funeral home locations.

“We actually converted one of our chapels into a cooler. We’re not gonna be able to have visitations there any more, said Ortiz, general manager of Perches Funeral Homes in the west Texas city, on the border with Mexico.

He’s handled 290 coronavirus funerals in the city and four out of five families seeking his services this month are mourning the loss of a loved one who succumbed to the virus.

El Paso county is dealing with 11,000 active cases, almost triple the number of cases it recorded in the previous July-August peak, and reported 1,216 new cases on Saturday, the highest single-day increase the county has seen. More than 850 people are now hospitalized with the virus, straining the local system.

Trump said during last week’s presidential debate: “There was a very big spike in Texas, it’s now gone.

A hospital nurse on the frontline in the city, who asked not to be named publicly in case it risked her job, told the Guardian: “We’ve had no open beds for a couple weeks, and if we do, it’s only for an hour or so before another patient comes in.”
