The health department reported 1,997 new cases, bringing the state to 798,621 total cases. Of those cases, 664,635 are confirmed and 133,986 are probable.

There are 708 people currently hospitalized in the state.

The Tennessee Department of Health announced 1,288 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. To date, there have been 809,962 coronavirus cases reported as confirmed or probable in the state.

Tennessee reported 14 new deaths since Friday. In all, 11,866 people have died in the state as a result of the virus.

There are currently 839 people hospitalized in connection to the coronavirus in Tennessee. The state reported 784,267 people have recovered so far.

Tennessee surpasses national averages in new COVID cases, deaths

The latest State Profile Report from federal health agencies and the White House for the week of July 23 reports a 99% increase in COVID-19 cases per 100,000 persons compared to the previous week, a 77% increase in hospitalizations per 100 beds, and a 31% increase in deaths per 100,000 Tennesseans.

These percentages translate to 93 cases per 100,000 which is now above the national average of 92 cases per 100,000. The state is also reporting 0.6 deaths per 100,000 persons, rising above the 0.5 national average.
