WiSA - wireless speaker and audio

WiSA is both a hardware and software specification for delivering high-resolution digital audio wirelessly from a source device to a maximum of eight powered speakers within the same room. It does this with a high degree of reliability, using 24-bit 48kHz or 96kHz signals, and can support up to eight channels. This also lets WiSA systems support 3D audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.

WiSA is not a multiroom, whole-home music system. As a stand-alone wireless audio technology, it is not intended to join any of these other wireless audio ecosystems. It’s strictly for passing audio wirelessly within a single home theater setup and it is not compatible with non-WiSA Wi-Fi or Bluetooth speakers.

WiSA’s biggest advantage is that it frees consumers from having to install or even think about speaker cables in a single room.

WiSA Ready devices, like 2019 and 2020 LG TVs, have the required software to let you control a WiSA set of speakers, but they do not have a WiSA transmitter built-in. WiSA Ready products require the purchase of an external USB WiSA transmitter, like this Axiim Link HD transmitter.

If your existing TV isn’t WiSA Ready, you can add WiSA capability through an HDMI or optical port-connected WiSA transmitters like Axiim’s Q UHD Wireless Media Center or the upcoming $180 WiSA SoundSend, which will be available in November 2020.

The WISA SoundSend allows immersive home cinema audio systems to be set-up and connected quickly and easily using WiSA wireless audio technology. The SoundSend connects to your TV via HDMI and uses your TV’s ARC (Audio Return Channel) to receive audio and then transmits that audio wirelessly to any WiSA Certified speakers creating amazing audio experiences in your home.

Both the CineHome II and the THX Certified CineHome PRO wireless home theater systems can be set up in minutes with a smartphone app, which syncs up with the systems’ built-in WiSA (Wireless Speaker and Audio) technology that communicates between a base station and each audio component.

Both systems were already available in 5.1 configurations, including one subwoofer, but today the company unveiled add-on wireless subwoofers, up to three of which can be added onto either system to enable a 5.4 configuration. A total of four subwoofers can be placed strategically near different seats in a room, enabling a more immersive and bass-thumping experience no matter where viewers are sitting.
