Wednesday, Wisconsin health officials reported five new deaths related to COVID-19, moving the state's total to 6,653 deaths since the pandemic began.

Additionally, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) reported 25 new hospitalizations, moving the total number of hospitalizations during the pandemic to 27,894.

A total of 581,797 positive cases of COVID-19 have now been confirmed in Wisconsin, with 727 new cases reported Wednesday.

Wisconsin COVID surge attributed to delta variant; Dane County elevated to 'substantial transmission'

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services recorded 1,058 new cases of COVID-19 across the state Friday, the highest since Feb. 10, when the state health department recorded 1,184 new cases of the virus.

From mid-July to Tuesday, statewide hospitalizations due to COVID have increased 51% and, according to DHS, that number is expected to grow. During that same period of time, the number of COVID patients in hospital intensive care units saw a 57% increase.
