Texas reported 172 more deaths Friday, and state health officials said the number of hospitalizations with the illness the virus causes has resumed its downward trend.

The deaths raised the death toll for the coronavirus pandemic to more than 41,600, but hospitalizations fell by 117 patients to 7,757 Thursday, the most recent number available from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The confirmed and probable coronavirus cases reported to the state rose by 2,791 to 2,577,131, of which an estimated 227,726 are active.

Texas’ COVID-19 deaths are at more than 41,600, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The number of deaths in Texas due to the illness caused by the coronavirus increased by more than 200 on Saturday while the number of people hospitalized with the virus declined, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

There were an additional 227 COVID-19 deaths, more than 4,900 new cases and 7,535 hospitalizations, a decline of 222 people hospitalized, the department reported.

Texas has had more than 2.5 million coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, and more than 42,000 deaths due to COVID-19, the third highest death count in the United States, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported 7,146 hospitalizations. That is the lowest it has been since the 7,083 hospitalizations on Nov. 12. Hospitalizations have been steadily dropping since mid-January.

There were an additional 130 COVID-19 deaths and more than 4,259 new cases, the department reported.

Texas reported 290 more deaths Friday from the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19, but COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to plummet.

The Texas Department of State Health Services said the state's COVID-19 deaths now total 42,575. The state's confirmed and probable coronavirus cases rose by 7,332 to 2,629,136, an estimated 250,233 of which are active. Of those, 6,185 required hospitalization as of Thursday, the state’s most recent total made available. That was 794 fewer than Sunday and 539 fewer than Wednesday.

Across Texas, 3,815 more coronavirus cases were reported Sunday, including 3,636 new cases and 179 older cases that were recently added by labs.

The state also reported 197 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 42,936.

Of the new cases, 2,921 were confirmed and 715 were probable. Of the older cases, 155 were confirmed and 24 were probable.

The newly reported cases bring the state’s total to 2,644,024, including 2,287,135 confirmed cases and 356,889 probable cases.

There were 5,696 COVID-19 patients in Texas hospitals, including 1,415 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. On Saturday, 8.63% of patients in the hospital region covering Dallas-Fort Worth were COVID-19 patients — below the 15% threshold the state has used to define high hospitalizations.

The state health department on Saturday reported 4,713 newly confirmed or probable cases and 233 additional deaths due to COVID-19 for a fatality total of 44,367 since the pandemic began.

There have been more than 2.3 million confirmed virus cases in Texas since the pandemic began a year ago.

Texas health officials reported more than 2,400 new cases of COVID-19 Sunday, along with 84 more deaths linked to the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The Texas Department State Health Services reported 1,805 new confirmed cases of the virus and another 615 probable cases. Health officials estimated there were more than 137,00 active cases of the virus in Texas Sunday.

Texas has reported more than 2.3 millions total cases of COVID-19 and 44,451 fatalities. The actual number of cases is believed to be far higher because many people haven’t been tested and some who get sick don’t show symptoms.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has ticked down in recent weeks, hitting 4,721 Saturday, the most recent day for which state data is available.

The COVID-19 death toll rose to more than 1,500 Monday in Central Texas, but reports of new cases continue to decline, and the number of doses of vaccine flowing into the region is increasing.

As many as 1,534 Central Texas residents diagnosed with the COVID-19 have died

Statewide the total number of confirmed cases rose to 2,322,728 Monday, an increase of 8,541 since Friday and of 1,872 since Sunday,

Of the 1,872, 1,084 cases were new.

Statewide 132,006 cases were active Monday, 2,510,384 residents have recovered and 4,329 were hospitalized, 736 fewer than on Friday and 392 fewer than on Sunday.

The statewide death toll rose to 44,483 Monday, an increase of 349 since Friday and of 32 since Sunday.

The state count of new COVID-19 daily cases is back above 4,000, with 4,838 new confirmed and probable cases reported Tuesday, state health officials said.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas has recorded 2,726,194 COVID-19 cases during the year-old pandemic. Of those, an estimated 111,691 cases were active Tuesday. Of those, 3,941 required hospitalization as of Monday, the most recent total available from the state.

The 130 new COVID-19 deaths reported Tuesday by the state push its pandemic death toll to 46,650, the nation’s third-largest toll, the Johns Hopkins researchers said.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported 3,521 new cases Friday, 852 fewer than the day before. The addition of 53 previously unreported cases brought the state's pandemic total to 2,739,385.

The state also reported the fewest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since Oct. 10 at 3,752 as of Thursday, the most recent total available. The estimate of active cases fell by 1,099 to 107,597.

Johns Hopkins University researchers say the 158 new COVID-19 deaths reported Friday raised the state’s pandemic death toll to 47,193.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported an additional 3,453 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, increasing the statewide total to 2,395,313, while in Central Texas 100 additional cases were reported, boosting the regional total to 75,766.

The statewide death toll rose by 126 to 47,404 Wednesday.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reported 4,098 new cases, which was well above the state’s seven-day rolling average of 3,120 as computed by Johns Hopkins University researchers. Johns Hopkins data show the new cases, along with 446 previously unreported cases added Wednesday, push the pandemic total to 3,018,501. The state estimated 68,974 were active.

The 99 deaths topped the Johns Hopkins average for Texas of 82. The state’s pandemic death toll rose to 48,833.
