Nevada reached a grim milestone on Saturday as it surpassed 100,000 COVID-19 cases. The addition of nearly 1,000 cases in the past 24 hours contributed to the total of 100,763 confirmed coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak issued the following statement regarding the news:

Nevada has surpassed 100,000 COVID-19 cases in our State and we have lost almost 1,800 fellow Nevadans to this virus. We are not rounding the corner in this pandemic. Now is not the time to get complacent or to give into COVID fatigue. Especially on Nevada Day, I implore all residents to tap into their Battle Born spirit and work together to follow the public health measures, including wearing a face covering, practicing social distancing, avoiding large crowds and washing our hands frequently.

There is now a total of 100,763 confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide with 82,362 in Clark County.

Clark County has a case rate of 535 per 100,000, and a test positivity of 9.8 percent.

Nevada reported 585 confirmed/suspected cases on Friday,

Statewide hospital occupancy rates: 75%

ICU units occupancy rate: 60%

Ventilators in use: 25%

evada health officials on Tuesday reported 911 new COVID-19 cases and 23 additional deaths, the highest single-day coronavirus death toll since the state reported 26 on Sept. 15.

State Department of Health and Human Services officials said the total number of coronavirus cases now is 103,025 since the pandemic started with 1,807 known deaths.

They said all 23 of the latest deaths were in Clark County, the state’s largest that includes metro Las Vegas.

The number of infections is thought to be far higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected with the virus without feeling sick.

State health officials reported 1,562 cases on Friday morning, a record for single-day increases in cases. The previous record was 1,447 cases on July 16.

A little more than 1,000 of the new cases reported Friday were in Clark County.

The state’s seven-day average of new cases also surpassed 1,000 for the first time since August, as hospitalizations across the state continued to climb.

The state reported 21 deaths on Friday.

Washoe County has seen the worst of the recent surge, Cage said.

Acute-care hospitals there had about 84 percent of all staffed beds filled, the Nevada Hospital Association reported Friday. About 16 percent of those patients were either confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19.

But state officials say changes in personal behavior remain the best way to slow the spread. Those include wearing face masks, social distancing and hand washing.

“The safest thing at this point for all of us in the state, but in Washoe County in particular, is to assume that you’re positive and not put others at risk,” said Julia Peek, deputy administrator for the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services.

The first-term Democrat has practically begged residents to follow Nevada’s mask-wearing and social distancing orders during recent virus-related press events.

Now, he says he’s no longer asking.

“As you are all aware our country and state are on a very rough course right now,” the governor added. “The fall spike predicted by medical experts is now our reality.

“Nevadans need to change behaviors immediately. …Again, if we don’t make progress over the next 14 days, I will be forced to take stronger action.”

“I think we can do more as we try to stomp out this terrible disease,” Slonim said. “I am very, very concerned. We’re unable to keep pace with the virus in our community. We need you to help us.

“I’m asking you to please, please do the right thing: Stay home, wash your hands, wear a mask.”

Nevada on Thursday reported 1,469 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths as the statewide coronavirus infection surge continued to spread, in the words of state and local health officials, like an out of control wildfire.

Updated figures from the state Department of Health and Services raised state totals since the onset of the disease to 114,880 cases and 1,880 deaths, with rates of transmission now erasing the progress made to contain the virus in late summer and rivaling the worst days of the pandemic.

“We are back where we were and we do not have control over COVID,” state biostatistician Kyra Morgan said Thursday at the weekly meeting of the state’s COVID mitigation task force.

With the exception of Monday, Nevada has reported more than 1,000 cases every day for the past nine days, according to state data.

“We basically have a COVID-19 wildfire that’s occurring,” Dick said. “And the idea of contact tracing, where we’re going after individual trees that are on fire, is not an effective strategy in that situation.”

The number of coronavirus hospitalizations in Nevada has spiked to its highest since the start of the pandemic, as an autumn surge continues to rewrite the record book in the state.

Health officials reported on Wednesday that 1,246 confirmed or suspected coronavirus patients were hospitalized in Nevada, more than twice as many as three weeks ago. And unlike in July, when Nevada logged its previous record high, hospitals are now confronting competing demands like the flu, pushing them near the brink of their capacity; 79% of staffed hospital beds in the state are currently occupied.

Nevada reported 1,665 coronavirus cases and three deaths on Wednesday, bringing the statewide totals to 125,459 cases and 1,947 deaths since the onset of the pandemic. The test positivity rate, as measured by a 14-day rolling average, is 15.6%.

Private gatherings will be limited to ten and can include people from no more than two households. Public gatherings limits will also be reduced from 250 people to 50, including for churches. Masks are required at any time you are around someone not part of your immediate household, including during private gatherings inside and outside.

"We are on a rapid trajectory that threatens to overwhelm our health care system, our frontline health workers, and your access to care. So it’s time to act," Sisolak said.

The situation would have been better, Sisolak said, if the president's administration took stronger action at the beginning of the pandemic.

"The lack of a national plan has been devastating to states," he said.
