Wisconsin identified almost 5,100 new coronavirus cases (5,095) in its latest batch of test results Thursday, continuing a decline from the peak near 8,000 cases a week and a day ago. More than 1 in 3 tests came back positive. The positivity rate was about 37% (37.05%) of the 13,751 tests received. The remaining 8,653 tests were negative.

Wisconsin Department of Health Services added 62 more COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,240. The death rate rose back to 0.87% of all known coronavirus cases, a rate we hadn’t seen since November 7. At the current pace, COVID-19 could be comparable to the third-leading cause of death in Wisconsin next week, behind only heart disease and cancer, surpassing the 3,786 accidental deaths in 2018.

To date, 374,537 people have tested positive for the coronavirus, or 6.4% of Wisconsin’s estimated population.

Monday, the Department of Health Services reported 2,534 new cases were identified in the latest batch of test results.

The state reported 6 more deaths Monday, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,313.

A total 387,235 people in Wisconsin have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus in less than 10 months.

For the third time in 10 days, fewer than 100 people were hospitalized for treatment of serious COVID-19 symptoms. The DHS says 96 people were hospitalized in the last 24 hours, well below the 7-day average of 166 hospitalizations per day.

Since the start of the pandemic, more than 17,000 people (17,095) have been hospitalized for COVID-19, which is 4.4% of all known cases.

New figures Monday show 1,845 COVID-19 patients are in hospitals currently, including 395 in ICU.

The WHA reports 187 ICU beds are open among the state’s 134 hospitals, indicating 87.2% of the state’s ICU beds are occupied. Including intermediate care, medical surgical and negative flow isolation, the state has 1,690 beds open, or 15.1% of all beds. That’s not to say they’re all available unless a hospital doesn’t have the staff -- doctors, nurses, food workers -- to care for a patient in them.

The state reported 107 COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday. That’s a new one-day record, although it may reflect the post-holiday return of staffing to review death certificates of patients who died from COVID-19.

“It took seven-and-a-half months to reach the first 100,000 cases. It took 35 days to get to 200. Eighteen days later we added another 100,000 cases. We are in the start of December and we are nearing 400,000 cases,” Health Secretary-designee Andrea Palm said.

Almost 40% of test results by Tuesday’s deadline were positive.

A total 391,313 people in Wisconsin have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus in less than 10 months. The percentage of those cases that are still active continues declining: It’s now 17.5% of all coronavirus cases dating back to last February. That’s 68,406 people.

The state reports 277 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, reversing a downward trend. It’s the most admitted to hospitals in one day since 279 patients on November 24. Since the start of the pandemic, 17,372 people have been hospitalized for COVID-19, which is 4.4% of all known cases.

Tuesday there were 18 fewer COVID-19 patients in the state’s hospitals. The Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) reported 1,827 currently hospitalized, with 415 in ICU. That’s 20 more COVID-19 patients in intensive care than the day before.

The WHA reported 170 ICU beds are open among the state’s 134 hospitals, indicating 88.4% of the state’s ICU beds are occupied -- including COVID-19 patients and any other ailment or condition. In total, the state has 1,603 medical beds available (14.3%) if they have the staffing to take care of patients in them.

Wisconsin passed 3,500 deaths from COVID-19 with Wednesday’s report from the state Department of Health Services. The DHS recorded 82 more deaths, the fourth-highest loss this month. The state is losing an average 46 people a day to COVID-19, and the death rate climbed back up to 0.89%, a rate which was last seen on November 1.

The state identified 3,777 new coronavirus cases in the new report based on 9,983 tests -- a positivity rate of 37.83%. The 7-day average for new cases declined to 3,664 a day, but we need to point out the state received fewer than 10,000 test results five of the past 7 days because of the Thanksgiving holiday break, when many testing sites were closed.

Another 197 people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing that metric down after a near-record 277 hospitalizations the day before.

To date, 17,569 people have needed hospitalization for COVID-19 since February, holding steady at 4.4% of all known coronavirus cases.

Wednesday afternoon, the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) reported 1,780 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, the lowest current hospitalizations since 1,774 patients on Nov. 5. The WHA reports 397 are in ICU, putting that number below 400 for the third time this week.

The WHA reported 167 ICU beds are open out of 1,466 in the state’s 134 hospitals (11.4% of ICU beds). Counting ICU, intermediate care, medical surgical and negative flow isolation, the state has 1,549 beds open (13.9%), which is 54 fewer beds than Tuesday.

Wisconsin’s death rate climbed again. It’s now 0.92% after the state recorded 81 more COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, the most in a week. The death rate hasn’t been this high in a month-and-a-half. Wisconsin is averaging 55 deaths a day over the past 7 days.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says 422,065 people have now tested positive for the coronavirus since it was confirmed in Wisconsin in early February.

54,599 people are active cases, which, as a percentage, is down to 12.9% of all cases diagnosed.

3,887 people have died.

There were hundreds more hospitalizations since the state report on Tuesday. The DHS reports 215 more COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, after 214 on Tuesday.

Since the coronavirus first appeared in Wisconsin 10 months ago, 18,715 people have been hospitalized for serious COVID-19 symptoms. The percentage seems to have stagnated at 4.4% of all coronavirus cases.

Wednesday there were 1,535 currently hospitalized -- 21 fewer than the day before -- with 326 in intensive care.

Wisconsin’s death rate climbed again... for a third straight day and for the fourth time in a week.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has 57 more COVID-19 deaths in Thursday’s report, which is very close to the 7-day average of 55 deaths a day. In total, 3,944 people have died in Wisconsin from the disease caused by the coronavirus. That’s 0.93% of all known coronavirus cases since the virus reached our state in February.

Another 160 people were hospitalized for serious COVID-19 symptoms in the last 24 hours. That’s very close to the 7-day average of 160 cases per day after two straight days reporting more than 200 hospitalizations. The state says 18,875 people diagnosed with COVID-19 have been hospitalized since early February, or 4.4% of all known cases.

The Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) reported there were 1,484 COVID-19 patients in the state’s 134 hospitals Thursday afternoon, with 332 of them in intensive care. The number in ICU has grown since Wednesday, but current hospitalizations for COVID-19 are under 1,500 for the first time since October 29.

The WHA reports 162 ICU beds are open, or 11.1% of all the state’s ICU beds, which is less than Wednesday, while 15.7% of all hospital beds are open, which is a very slight improvement over Wednesday.

The state reports 84 people died from COVID-19. The 7-day average moved up to 51 deaths per day.

To date, state officials say 4,399 people have died from the disease caused by the coronavirus, which is 0.97% of all known cases.

The DHS also reported Saturday that 122 more people were hospitalized for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

So far, 20,052 people have been hospitalized for COVID-19 treatment since the virus reached Wisconsin 10 months ago.

State health officials report 455,499 people have tested positive for the coronavirus -- about 7.8% of Wisconsin’s population.

The latest figures from the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) report 1,274 people are currently hospitalized for COVID-19, with 292 of them in intensive care.

For hospital readiness, the WHA reported that 15.55% of ICU beds and 18.78% of all the state’s hospital beds were open Friday. These beds are for all patients, not just COVID-19, and whether a bed can be filled depends on whether the hospital has the necessary medical and support staff.
